02. The Rule Book
We don’t read and write because it’s cute. We read and write because we are members of the human race And the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. That you are here; that life exists, that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?

[attr="class","enc_head"]I. Behaviour

Aludium's modus operandi is based on the principles of respect, honesty, tact, maturity and understanding. It is essential and required that all members adhere to these principles and beliefs at all times. This applies across the forum in both out-of-character and in-character boards. The only allowances to be made within this philosophy are the words and thoughts of the fictional characters themselves. Any behaviour that can or could be construed as bullying, harassment, prejudice, deceit or hate language will result in action being taken by the staff team. This may, or may not, result in your account being suspended from the site.

[attr="class","enc_head"]II. Registration

Please register with one account per character - you are able to register multiple characters to a single email address and will be asked to select the character you are roleplaying as upon login. This will need to be changed if you wish to post as an alternative character while on the forum. Please adjust your display name to read the full name of your character, using appropriate capitalisation. There is no need to change your character name to lower or upper case to fit a site theme, as the themes are coded to do this for you. Do not make an OOC account. No matter how many characters you have, an OOC account is unnecessary and confusing.

[attr="class","enc_head"]III. Activity

We try to encourage activity and renewed visits to the site. If you have any reasons why you are unable to login for a while, please let the other members know in the appropriate board. If a member is unable to sign two consecutive activity checks or has failed to post an in-character post within a month, their account may be subject to suspension.

[attr="class","enc_head"]IV. Character Limit

There is a maximum of three characters per person allowed on Aludium. This measure is an attempt to encourage creativity, rather than stifle it. We are interested in multiple, quality-driven characters rather than a plethora of poorly developed tropes. This character limit is lifted after a member has secured over two hundred posts with each character and over a thousand posts collectively. The character limit is then raised to six characters. This is the maximum on Aludium.

[b]CHARACTER EXTENSION REQUEST[/b]

[b]Current Characters:[/b]
Please list your three active accounts. These must each have 200 posts.

[b]Current Post Total:[/b]
Please state your total post count. This must be over 1000 posts.

[attr="class","enc_link"]Submit Your Request

A member is welcome to, at any time, orchestrate the demise of a character in order to open the opportunity for a new one. If you have reached your character limit but have finished with a particular persona, you need to register your character's "death" with the staff team and will then be able to create a fourth account. You may keep the old one, in order to keep the posts and history of your character, but will be unable to roleplay as your deceased character. The staff team will also ensure that your previous character is listed as dead on appropriate information threads, so that other roleplayers are kept aware. When requesting an increase in your character limit to six characters, the 200 posts required are expected from your three active accounts. You must still have 200+ posts on each of your three active character accounts, but your deceased character's posts can be used to meet your 1000 posts total requirement.

[attr="class","enc_head"]V. Roleplay Etiquette

No godmoding, powerplaying or metagaming. This means no taking control of another player's character without permission, no overpowering your character and manipulating situations so they can win all the time, and no implementation of outside knowledge to influence in character decisions and consequences. Be aware, at all times, how much your character is supposed to know about the characters around them and whether they may or may not be able to beat, manipulate or out-think their rival.

Our character fighting statistics/attributes are a cosmetic feature designed to help gauge how a fight, argument or plan may fall. You can compare the Strength, Agility and Defense of your character and the character they are engaged with and decide the most appropriate course of action.

Your character's statistics come from their Attributes and their Wealth. The attributes are Strength, Agility and Defense. Wealth is measured in the Galactic Credit Standard.

Your character's Attributes are guidelines for how you might play out certain circumstances when writing. When your character becomes involved in a confrontation or physical entanglement, it is important to keep an eye on the character statistics of the person they are involved in. There are no hard and fast mathematical rules to be applied here, only the agreement that realistic and believable results are made through your writing. For example, it is unlikely that someone with 100 Agility points would manage to be caught be someone with 2 Agility points.

If you have any issues with the consequences of an entanglement or plot development then simply message a member of staff and it will be their objective decision on where the results should fall.

[attr="class","enc_head"]VI. Legality

No posting of illegal material of any kind. We conform to Proboards Terms of Service at all times. This includes a rating PG+13 on all roleplaying/writing material. This includes limited cursing and mature content, such as kissing and suggestive contact. For a full check on Proboards ToS please visit their website. If you have any concerns regarding the content of the site, please report it to a member of staff using the link below.

[attr="class","enc_head"]VII. Graphics and Face Claims

At Aludium, we do our best not to limit the creativity of our members, so images and customisation of posts and plot tracker pages are all allowed. However, we ask that the below limits be followed so that no image will interrupt the use and facility of the site itself.

AVATAR IMAGES
All avatar images (the large image to the right-hand side of your posts that sits behind the information boxes regarding your character) will be automatically set to 240 x 630 pixels after being uploaded to your profile. The image looks better the closer to that size the image is originally. If you link the image rather than upload it, the image also comes out sharper.

MEMBER ICON IMAGES
When you hover over your avatar image, further information is displayed, including your member icon. This is the little square gif shown above your backpack. You can add this in your profile. Not all gifs are square so we have coded the member icon to change the height of a gif to the appropriate size and then show the equivalent width, cutting off the far left of any rectangular images. We hope this helps for anyone wanting to use a gif that isn't the right proportions.

SIGNATURE IMAGES
Unlike most other roleplay sites, our signatures are text rather than image. We have a large avatar image space for you to show off your character so an additional signature didn't seem necessary. The text signatures we have are displayed at the top of each post. Please put in a favourite or favoured quote that you like - the quote marks are automatically generated.

IN POST IMAGES
All images within a post - used as decoration or illustration for your character or otherwise - must be a maximum of 530 pixels wide. Any wider will stretch the page of the website and the image will be removed by a member of staff. For point of reference, the orange bars under each header of this page are exactly 530 pixels wide.

FACE CLAIMS
There is no claiming or reserving system for Face Claims on Aludium. All "faces" currently in use by our active characters (a list of which can be found on the Creation page of the main site) are off limits to new creators. Any deceased character's face is open for use and any canon face is open for claim so long as that canon character is not actively in use. If said canon character is then created with the appropriate face, we will simply have two lookalikes on the site for the duration of the canon character's playability. A few doppelgangers in a universe this big is more realistic than not.

SIDE BAR IMAGES
The vertical block down the right hand side of your avatar is a coloured side bar that reflects your site rank or staff position.

Aludium operates a non-powers ranking system. This is a purely aesthetic achievement that offers a few rewards at certain levels but has no authoritative or power-based responsibilities. You can tell a characters rank based on the coloured side bar that runs down the right hand side of a member's posts. Below is a key of the colours.

Newcomer - 0 Posts
Padawan - 150 Posts
Knight - 500 Posts (10% off items in the Emporium)
Master - 1000 Posts (25% off items in the Emporium)
Legend - 5000 Posts (40% off items in the Emporium, Free Custom Side Bar Images)

You'll also see particular colours for particular staff positions. These are listed below.
